We’re sure by now you’ve noticed the green polka dot pedestrian plaza at Sunset and Griffith Park Blvd. What once was an intersection rife with biking accidents and too many near misses to count, is now a public space demonstration project spearheaded by the LA Department of Transportation, Streets For People (S4P) and the Silver Lake Improvement Association (SLIA). Using a safety barrier of moveable planters and a bright green color scheme, Los Angeles’ first-ever pedestrian plaza reclaimed from parking spaces and car traffic was created, replicating the successful street plaza projects in New York City that offer more public space to a park deprived city like our own.

As early supporters of the Sunset Triangle Plaza, we’re stoked to see so many people already using it as a place to meet and gather, learn tai chi, play a game of hoops, drink coffee with friends and read in the sun.

Last night we mixed at the Citibank Art Space and enjoyed a sneak preview of the Silver Lake Art Collective annual art show entitled, Spectrum 2011.

A very big THANK YOU to our October mixer co-hosts, Citibank and the Silver Lake Art Collective! Working with Silvina Snow (Citibank Branch Manager) and Brenda Welsh (SLAC) was a true pleasure and we were thrilled to make yet another community connection that brought us all together in our unique, creative and welcoming corner of Los Angeles!

Members of the Silver Lake business community mingled with local artists and Collective members, admiring the art, enjoying wine from our sponsor silver lake wine and enjoying a great sense of community as we got to know one another.

We hope to make our October mixer a regular fixture during the SLAC annual show, bringing our communities together to celebrate the neighborhood art and many cultural threads that unite us.

It’s that time again! Join us for our quarterly Silver Lake Chamber of Commerce mixer next Thursday, October 20th (6:30-8pm). Enjoy the art, wine and great community with us! Co-hosted by Citibank and the Silver Lake Art Collective, “SPECTRUM 2011” presents new works by 32 visual artists from the Silver Lake Art Collective. Two and three dimensional works are featured including original paintings, collages, photography, sculpture, ceramics, print making and installation art. The exhibit is located in Citibank’s adjacent warehouse which has been converted into an Art Space.
